And even if you care, they don't expect you to do anything about it. And even if you do something about it, they don't expect it to last. We do. – Alex and Brett
A generation stands on the brink of a "rebelution." A growing movement of young people is rebelling against the low expectations of today's culture by choosing to "do hard things" for the glory of God. And Alex and Brett Harris are leading the charge. Do Hard Things is the Harris twins' revolutionary message in its purest and most compelling form, giving readers a tangible glimpse of what is possible for teens who actively resist cultural lies that limit their potential. Combating the idea of adolescence as a vacation from responsibility, the authors weave together biblical insights, history, and modern examples to redefine the teen years as the launching pad of life. Then they map out five powerful ways teens can respond for personal and social change. Written by teens for teens, Do Hard Things is packed with humorous personal anecdotes, practical examples, and stories of real-life rebelutionaries in action. This rallying cry from the heart of an already-happening teen revolution challenges a generation to lay claim to a brighter future, starting today. | | | |

So good, I bought a case of them Nov 11, 2009 I've actually followed the Harris family since before the twins were born (the authors of this book). I became acquainted with their family in the early 1980's as we began homeschooling. Josh and Brett have demonstrated the success of the parent's philosophy in this outstanding book that challenges today's teens to rebel against apathy, low expectations, slackness and a host of other characteristics that keep teens from leaving their marks on the world sooner rather than later. I bought this book on my Kindle and read it in one day. Then I went out and bought an entire case of them hardbound and presented them to the graduating seniors at our church. Many of their parents read them too and commented on how great the book is. They say what needed to be said, but because they are teens themselves, it cares extra weight. I'd pay my teens to read this book.
Do Hard Things Oct 20, 2009 "A teenage rebellion against low expectations," is a great way to summarize this book. Most teenagers these days don't live up to the expectations that teenagers had back in the older days, such as George Washington. This book really opens up the eyes of all of the teenagers, and parents who read this book. Well, at least I know it opened my eyes. It explains to us that the expectations of teens today are much different of those before. Now, the expectations of teens are to be able to clean their room, without the help of their mother, do the dishwasher and take out the trash. Before, George Washington, at age eleven was already on his way to becoming the first president of the United States. Also, Clara Barton at age 11 was helping the wounded and nursing the health and later became the founder of the Red Cross. You should read this book because it is a really fast read; it is so interesting to listen to how low our expectations are these days. It's also not just a book for a specific gender. It relates to all teens, girls and boys. Plus, it is also for parents who are learning how to get their child to live up to bigger expectations and do something productive with their life. Also, it is written by Christians and relates back to the bible throughout the book. You do not have to be a Christian, but if you are a Christian and want a good, fun, interesting book, this is the book for you.

A Youth Pastor's Dream Oct 19, 2009 As a youth pastor I found this book to be an incredible inspiration. Alex & Brett Harris are a reminder to all of us that teenagers can in fact rise above the low expectations our society puts on them. I have challenged my youth group with many of the stories from the book and have even went as far as to give this book to several of my students. You can not help but be motivated to do something for Christ after reading this book!
Written for teens, but challenges us all Oct 16, 2009 Do Hard Things presents a mentality that is sorely missed in America today. A key to a person's healthy development in life is being willing to accept challenges rather than always settling for just enough. With that concept missing in most teen social environments, this book couldn't have come at a better time.
The book is a quick read, and is written for a teenage level of attention span and understanding. As such, adults reading the book may feel talked down to. That's okay, you are being talked down to because they're treating you like a teen!
We recently used the book as the foundation for discussion in a weekly meeting of young men, ages 18-25. By the time we reach this age, we need to be able to do hard things! But nonetheless, we are all learning from what the Harris brothers have to say.
